    Jason Tvedt 2019-20 ROSE Award

    Tvedt receives
    '19-20 ROSE Award

    The Castlewood Education Foundation presented the ROSE Award for the 2019-20 school year to Jason Tvedt. Tvedt has served the youth of our community for many years, teaching students sportsmanship, morals and values.

    New scholarships 
    awarded in 2020

    Four scholarships were newly awarded in May of 2020. 

    A new $1,000 scholarship has been endowed with the Castlewood Education Foundation by Sharon (Miller) Nagelhout, (Class of 1956). She established the scholarship in honor of her husband Maynard Nagelhout (Class of 1956) and their families.

    Bonnie Gerhold funded a $500 scholarship for a 2020 graduating student in memory of her husband Ross Gerhold, Class of 1954 and a former Castlewood High School math and science teacher.

    The $1,000 John and Delice Gleysteen Memorial Scholarship is given by Jane Gleysteen Bobzin (Class of 1962), Arlys Gleysteen Sikorski (Class of 1966) and Ron Gleysteen (Class of 1968) in memory of their parents John and Delice Gleysteen.

    The $500 Edward and Rachel Westgard Memorial Scholarship was established by Krisma Westgard Dewitt (Class of 1974) in honor of her parents, Edward and Rachel Westgard.

    Castlewood High School art class pottery field trip

    ART STUDENT GAGE DOBBS helps smother a red-hot piece from the kiln during a field trip to Dakota Potter's Supply in Sioux Falls. Looking on are Devin Matson, German Lopez, Layce Kooima (hidden), Chloe Carroll and Brandon Matson.

    Innovative Education grants enrich science, art classes

    2019-20 Innovative Education Grants were awarded to art teacher Aubrey Vanderbusch and elementary teacher Nancy Appl.

    First Flight Winners –  Jon Gerhold, Brie Thiry, Garrett Karst and Michelle Barrett (not pictured) were the top team in the tournament.

    Education foundation hosts 
    successful golf tournament in 2019


    Another successful golf tournament was held June 15, 2019, with 52 golfers participating. Tournament proceeds fund Innovative Education Grants to teachers, classroom field trips, funds for music and the arts, and scholarships to graduating seniors. The 2020 golf tournament was cancelled. Visit the Golf Tournament page for more information.
